Music
Our Vision
Through Music at Bowling Park Primary, children develop a sense of pride, confidence and the ability to express their own ideas and thoughts about Music. Our curriculum is designed to give pupils the opportunity to develop their musical understanding, creativity and ability whilst nurturing their talents. They are encouraged and inspired to partake in Music through the engaging, exciting curriculum and the extra-curricular activities that we offer. As Musicians, the children can listen and appraise, compose, improvise, sing and play during their lessons, assemblies and extra-curricular activities. They are inspired to ask questions about famous musicians, pieces of music, instruments, terminology and musical techniques. All of which allow children to consider how music influences our emotions and how it can be incorporated into different aspects of life including tv and films and what effect it has. Students learn about music across time and make cross curricular links with subjects such as history and RE.
Children are encouraged to experiment and produce their own original pieces of music as well as learning a wide repertoire of famous pieces. Our curriculum allows children to acquire knowledge of different kinds of instruments and how they can be manipulated to create different sounds. Students think about the elements of music such as pitch, volume, tempo and rhythm and how these contribute to and can change a piece of music. The progression of skills and knowledge throughout their learning journey at Bowling Park allows pupils to develop learnt skills, build confidence and resilience and experiment freely within the art form. We believe that Music can support children to find their place in the world by reflecting on a range of diverse artists and genres from around the world. At Bowling Park, each of us are single notes but together we make a masterpiece! Music is inclusive and allows children to overcome barriers, express themselves and deepen their understanding of the world. It is a universal language that we are all able to speak and understand/interpret.
