Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

EYFS Vision

"Play is a form of thought." Piaget

Play is the foundation of our curriculum at Bowling Park. During their time in our Early Years, we want children to learn how to play and become deeply engaged in their play through a play-based curriculum.

Our planning in the moment ethos allows the adults working with these children to develop a trusting and safe relationship, which is the foundation for our children’s high well-being and confidence. Children spend a great deal of time playing, in an environment that encourages creative thinking and imaginative play through open-ended resources. Adults in the Early Years see the importance of joining in with children’s play and use this to model language and good communication skills.

We believe that our children need to have the skills and vocabulary to question, explain, justify and listen to others in order to become successful adults.

"Language is the most powerful tool of any human being. It is undeniably the greatest asset we possess." Vygotsky

As a team of Early Years practitioners, we value the importance of children being secure in the 3 Prime Areas of Learning. Children at Bowling Park learn how to:

  • Problem solve and test ideas through, for example, building a tower which does not collapse.
  • Learn how to manage their feelings when something goes wrong, like when the spaceship crashes after they spent time building it.
  • Develop the control and expertise to use real tools to do real jobs.

We aim to equip children with the skills, attitude and knowledge through teaching the principles of Characteristics of Effective Learning to support our children to be strong learners for life. We want them to become scientists, poets, mechanics or nurses of the future.
